Resuscitation Training for Vaccinating Nurses
Course Summary
This 4-hour, hands-on course is specifically designed for vaccinating nurses, providing essential skills to confidently manage medical emergencies in both clinical and community immunisation settings. The content aligns with and exceeds the A4.4 resuscitation requirements outlined in the current Immunisation Handbook.
Ideal Participants
This course is ideal for:
• Vaccinating nurses in primary care, outreach, or community clinics
• Nurses administering vaccines in schools or aged care settings
• Healthcare providers needing to meet Immunisation Handbook A4.4 requirements
Course Content
Participants will learn to:
• Perform a structured primary survey using the DRSABCD approach
• Deliver high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS) for adults, children, and infants
• Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively
• Recognise and manage anaphylaxis in line with current clinical protocols
• Administer adrenaline confidently
• Apply oxygen therapy and use basic airway adjuncts appropriately
• Size and insert oropharyngeal airways (OPAs)
• Manage choking across all age groups
• Work effectively as part of a team in emergency situations
Course Duration
4 hours (includes scenario-based training, practical sessions, and short breaks)
Pre-learning is advisable
Certification
Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion – Resuscitation Training for Vaccinators.
This certification meets the A4.4 requirements in the Immunisation Handbook and is endorsed by the Medical Officer of Health, National Public Health Service, NZ.
