Key Changes: From 1 June 2025, ACLS training must be:
NZRC CORE Immediate with a minimum of six hours of contact time, including an assessment (no exam)
OR
NZRC CORE Advanced eight-hour course, including an assessment and exam.

NZRC CORE Immediate (Adult and Child)
Course Summary
This NZRC-endorsed course equips healthcare professionals with the skills to confidently manage cardiac arrest and life-threatening emergencies in both adults and children. The programme includes mandatory pre-course reading and six hours of practical, scenario-based training and assessment. Skills are continuously assessed throughout the day; however, a written exam is not required for this course.
Ideal Participants
- All General Practitioners – Endorsed by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP).
Participants can claim 8 CPD credits. - Nurses who require a specific NZRC CORE Certificate (otherwise, please see the Resuscitation training for vaccinating Nurse course)
Course Content
- DRSABCD primary survey
- Adult, child, and infant resuscitation
- High-quality CPR using manikins with real-time feedback
- Choking management for all ages
- Airway management: suction, OPAs, LMAs, i-Gels, bag-mask ventilation
- Safe oxygen delivery and flow rate selection
- Use of emergency drugs
- Management of medical emergencies (e.g., anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest)
- Teamwork and leadership in simulated critical events
Duration
Six hours (plus required pre-learning, a resuscitation manual will be provided two weeks before the course)

NZRC CORE Advanced
Course Summary
This is an advanced course designed for healthcare professionals who may be required to lead or participate in a team during a cardiac arrest or life-threatening emergency. Aligned with NZRC guidelines, it includes comprehensive pre-course learning and a full day of practical training, simulation, and assessment focused on advanced resuscitation and team leadership skills.
Ideal Participants
- General Practitioners – Participants can claim 12 CPD credits
- Dentists providing sedation – Completion of this course fulfils your Dental Council requirements.
- Registered Nurses working in acute or high-risk environments
Course Content
- Structured team approach to resuscitation
- Adult, child, and infant Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced airway management (LMAs, I-Gels, suction, OPAs, bag-mask ventilation)
- Manual defibrillation and rhythm recognition
- Use of emergency drugs
- Cardiac arrest algorithms (shockable and non-shockable)
- Management of peri-arrest conditions (e.g., anaphylaxis, sepsis, arrhythmias)
- Leading and participating in resuscitation team scenarios
- Debriefing and communication skills under pressure
- Hands-on CPR using high-quality manikins with feedback systems
Duration
8 hours (plus required pre-learning)
You will receive a resuscitation manual and access to pre-learning materials two weeks before the course. A written assessment is required as part of the certification process.
